Ahlers had been appointed by the Belgian family company Sarens to move the largest mobile crane in the world from Ghent/Belgium to Chandler/Arizona/USA.

The Belgian family company Sarens developed a new heavy lift crane (the SGC-120, nick name 'Big Benny') with load moments up to 120,000 tonmeter. The crane was designed to meet the future demands of the industry and will be deployed for the construction of a factory unit in Chandler, Arizona/US.

Ahlers has been appointed by Sarens to move this largest mobile crane in the world from Ghent/Belgium to Chandler, Arizona/US. Testing has been finished and dismantling will start as from this week.

Some fact & figures:

  • Big Benny has a lifting capacity of max 3,200 tons
  • a total volume of 9,000 cbm once fully dismantled
  • the majority of the cargo (8,000 cbm) will be shipped beginning of August on route Ghent-Flushing-San Diego-Chandler
  • first a smaller part will be dismantled (900 cbm-) and shipped by Chipolbrok 2nd half of July on route Ghent-Antwerp-Houston-Chandler
  • almost 450 truck trips will need to be executed (Europe & US combined) in order to transport all the pieces between ports and site locations

Besides organizing the door-to-door transport, Ahlers will also have 1 person on site both in Belgium and the US, assisting with the organization and coordination between all parties involved.
