Antwerp / Belgium / December 27th
Ahlers Agencies is proud to be the agent of the Chinese-Polish shipping company Chipolbrok, who has just announced the delivery of the last of four multipurpose vessels Shanghai Shipyard had constructed for them. The Paderewski, as the vessel is called, has a total dwt of 31.661 and will sail eastbound around the world, with regular calls in Antwerp.
All four vessels are 190 meters in length and have a total draught of 11 meters. Above deck they can be loaded up to 135 meters high. The three cranes on board each have a lifting capacity of 350 tons, which allows the vessels to lift items from up to 700 tons in tandem.
The vessels have a container capacity of 1.623 teu each, but their focus is on project cargo and breakbulk transportation. They are designed to load and carry exceptionally large or long cargo.
Renewal of the fleet
The construction of the four sister vessels is part of the renewal program Chipolbrok has started a couple of years ago. They are to replace the 22.109 dwt units built by Rijeka Shipyard between 1991 and 1993.
The Paderewski takes over the round-the-world service from the Jia Xing who who has now set sail for China to be scrapped.
The service connects Antwerp, South-East Asia and the Far East, after which the vessel sets sail for the Gulf of Mexico and crosses the Atlantic to end up back in Europe. Ahlers Agencies is representing the multipurpose service.
The vessel was named after a very important Polish composer, piano player and activist. Paderewski fought for Polish independence his whole life and was even named prime-minister for a short period in 1919.
